President William Ruto on Tuesday launched
the Vipingo Special Economic Zone (SZE) in Kilifi County.
He described the industrial hub as a
transformative 2,000-acre project set to attract Sh390 billion in investments.
“This grand project will also
generate more than 35,000 direct jobs and spark thousands more economic opportunities
across industries,” he said.
He added that Kenya is unlocking its
full potential as Africa’s industrial powerhouse.
“We are investing in Special
Economic Zones (SEZs) as engines of growth to fast-track industrialisation,
attract global investors and create wealth for our people,” the President
stated.
“With 38 SEZs, 111 EPZs, abundant
green energy, a dynamic young workforce, and rich natural resources for value
addition — Kenya stands as the gateway to Africa’s 1.4 billion-strong AfCFTA
market.”
Vipingo SEZ is being developed by global firm Arise
Integrated Industrial Platforms (Arise IIP) in partnership with Centum
Investments.
The Zone sits on a 2,000-acre site along the coast, strategically
located just 42 kilometers from Mombasa, a gateway to major shipping routes and
robust regional trade.
