Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen speaks to journalists in Migori County at the start of a regional security tour/SCREENGRAB

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on the public to come forward with any information that could help unravel the murder of prominent Nairobi lawyer Michael Kyalo Mbobu.

Unknown assailants riding a motorbike gunned down Mbobu in cold blood.

Speaking in Migori County at the start of a regional security tour, Murkomen strongly condemned the killing, describing it as “heinous” and a stark reminder of the need for collective vigilance against lawlessness.

“It is in the interest of the security sector and Kenyans that the truth comes out. I am very optimistic that in a very short time, we will have leads as far as this issue is concerned,” the CS said.

Murkomen lauded the eyewitnesses who have already provided accounts to investigators and expressed confidence that the case will be solved.

He also noted that some persons of interest had been identified and were already under interrogation, while others would be sought.

“This is a very sad thing that has happened in our country. It’s akin to what happened to the late Kasipul MP Ongondo Were. I am happy to note that there is progress being made by the DCI,” he said.

Murkomen revealed that the late lawyer was not only a professional colleague but also a former teacher and personal friend, adding a personal note of grief to his remarks.

The Interior CS said the motive for the murder was still unknown but assured the public that the government was in constant consultation with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to ensure justice is served.

“We do not know the motive yet. I am very interested to know what really happened... I am in a position of responsibility and in constant consultation with the DCI,” he said, while extending his condolences to the lawyer’s family.

Murkomen also clarified that the government is committed to ensuring justice for all victims, not just those with high public profiles.

“It’s not in the interest of the government to only expedite cases involving high-profile Kenyans. Every case must be investigated without discrimination — including the assistant chiefs who were murdered weeks ago in Migori,” he stated.

He pledged to personally follow up on the investigations and ensure that those responsible are brought to book.
