Athletics Kenya has announced that its offices in Nairobi and Eldoret will operate at limited capacity from September 11 to 23, 2025, to allow the athletics fraternity to fully focus on the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

In a notice issued Saturday, AK said the temporary adjustment will affect services at its Nairobi headquarters at Riadha House and the Eldoret branch at Daima Towers.

“This is to enable the athletics fraternity to participate in the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan (September 13–21, 2025),” the federation said.

During the period, urgent matters will be addressed through AK’s official email, [email protected] .

The federation further announced that the ongoing National Registration Exercise for training camps, coaches, medical staff and other athlete support personnel will pause and resume after the championships.

A revised schedule will be communicated in due course.

President William Ruto, on September 3, flagged off Team Kenya at State House, Nairobi, where he announced enhanced rewards for medalists.

Gold medalists will now pocket Sh3 million, up from Sh750,000, while silver medalists will receive Sh2 million, up from Sh500,000.

Bronze medalists will earn Sh1 million, up from Sh350,000.

“We have also raised their daily allowances from USD 60 to USD 200, a clear demonstration of our commitment to valuing their sacrifice and celebrating their victories,” Ruto said.

More than 2,000 athletes from about 200 countries are expected to participate in the competition, one of the world's biggest sporting events.

Tokyo will host the event for the second time and for the first time since 1991.

AK named a strong team of 58 athletes to represent the country at the event.

The team was selected after a thrilling day of national trials at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on July 22.

The federation assured stakeholders that full operations will resume on September 23, while extending best wishes to Team Kenya ahead of the global competition.
