Deputy President Kithure Kindiki condemned recent remarks by an opposition leader that he said seem to undermine the Presidency.

Speaking in Keiyo South, Elgeiyo Marakwet County on Saturday, Kindiki referred to statements allegedly made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who claimed that President William Ruto held undisclosed meetings during his Mandera tour with individuals linked to al-Shabaab sympathisers.

Kindiki emphasised the need for accountability, stating that any leader making claims on sensitive issues such as terrorism and crime should be prepared to provide evidence and face appropriate scrutiny.

"I hear there is a leader who spoke outside Kenya and said they have information that will help us preempt any attack by al-Shabaab because they have information on who and where plans to terrorize Kenyans are being made.

"We want to ask the relevant agencies to make sure that the people saying they have such information on terrorists and criminals must be held accountable and they must record statements so they help us on the issue and protect Kenyan from bandits, criminals and terrorists," he said.

The Deputy President reiterated that the government speaks with one voice, under the sole leadership of President William Ruto.

He called on investigative agencies to act swiftly and warned against actions that create disharmony in the country.

“There is only one Government of the Republic of Kenya with one leader, that is the position. There is only one leader in the Republic of Kenya at a time. Respect that office,” he declared, adding that leadership should focus on finding solutions rather than stirring division.

During the event, Kindiki also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to restoring peace in the bandit-prone North Rift, accelerating economic empowerment initiatives, conserving the environment, and completing key development projects such as modern markets and achieving 100% electricity connectivity.

He expressed confidence in Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to continue efforts to eradicate banditry and stabilise the entire North Rift region.

"I do not doubt in my mind that the CS Interior Kipchumba Murkomen will complete the work I started in eradicating the bandits so that the entire Northrift region will stabilise once and for all," Kindiki said.

Kindiki also commended Elgeiyo Marakwet for ranking among the top counties in Social Health Authority registration, with 260,000 residents enrolled out of a target of 450,000. Nationwide, 25.3 million Kenyans have signed up.

He was accompanied by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo, Governor Wisley Rotich, Senator William Kisang, and area MPs.
