Member of County Assembly for Chwele Kabuchai ward, James Mukhongo Barasa, is dead.

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula said Mukhongo was determined and bravely fought against cancer.

Wetang’ula eulogised Mukhongo, saying he was not just a leader, but he was a brother, a son of the soil, and a friend to many.

The Speaker said he knew him before the titles and the political acclaim when he was just a young man full of dreams, humility, and an extraordinary love for his people.

“I watched him rise, from being nominated as a councillor in 2002, to being elected MCA in 2013, and never once did he waver in his service. He remained grounded, true to his values, and unwavering in his purpose,” he said.

Mukhongo was the chairperson of the Finance Committee in the Bungoma County Assembly and was also the Ford Kenya Party chairman in Kabuchai, and led with integrity, loyalty, and the heart of a servant.

Wetang’ula said his voice spoke for the voiceless, his efforts uplifted the vulnerable, and his presence brought hope to countless homes.

“His passing is a deep wound not just to his family and the people of Kabuchai but to all of us who were touched by his spirit, his kindness, and his unrelenting passion for community empowerment,” the Speaker said.

“On behalf of my family, the National Assembly, the Ford-Kenya Party, and from the depths of my own heart, I offer my sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Chwele/Kabuchai Ward.”

Wetang’ula prayed that the Lord wrap him in His comfort during this season of grief.

“May James' soul, having fought the good fight and kept the faith, find eternal peace in the presence of God. Farewell, my brother. Farewell, gallant son of Kabuchaí. Your legacy will endure in the lives you touched and the path you paved.”
