Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has criticised Deputy President Kithure Kindiki over what he described as interference in the county’s 2027 succession politics.
He warned Kindiki against influencing the race for governor, insisting that the people of Kakamega will make their own choice.
“Wewe Kindiki, umeambia watu ati Governor 2027 ni Barasa...ni two-term. Kama umeshindwa kudhibiti ... kwenu, usifikiri utakuja hapa kuamua nani atachaguliwa,” Khalwale said.
(You, Kindiki, are telling people that Barasa will be governor in 2027...that he is a two-term leader. If you have failed to rein... in your region, don’t think you can come here and decide who will be elected.)
Khalwale also declared his intention to vie for the county’s top seat in the upcoming election.
"Kindiki, sikiza vizuri. I am your senior. Bonny Khalwale will be the Governor of Kakamega in 2027," he boldly stated during an event at Shimanyiro in the county.
He also urged the new look electoral commission-IEBC-to guarantee the country a free, fair and verifiable election in 2027.
Khalwale also questioned Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s use of empowerment programmes, suggesting they may be politically motivated.
"That is not the work of a Speaker. The Speaker’s office is authoritative. Let him learn from the decorum of former Speakers like Kenneth Marende and Francis ole Kaparo," he said.
On education, Khalwale emphasised the need for fully free schooling from primary to university.
He urged Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi to bring a Cabinet memo to Parliament supporting the same, assuring that lawmakers would approve it.
"Pesa iko mingi Kenya. Wakenya, msikubali watoto wasome kwa taabu," he told the crowd.
