Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that the united opposition will unveil a single presidential candidate in December to face President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua, who spoke Friday during one of his engagements with Kenyans living in the United States, said the opposition has agreed to set aside personal ambitions and rally behind one candidate, who will be picked through consensus.

“Around December, we'll produce one candidate to face him,” Gachagua announced.

He added that he is ready to support whoever is picked by the team.

“I have said if we pick Kalonzo Musyoka, we'll support him to the end; if it's Fred Matiang’i, Eugene Wamalwa, our sister Martha Karua, we’ll all unite behind that one candidate," said the DCP leader.

"And, if by God's grace they pick me nitakimbiza yeye sana."

Gachagua emphasised that unity within the opposition is non-negotiable, warning that internal divisions would only help President Ruto secure a second term.

“We are clear in our mind that we cannot allow ourselves to be divided because he will slip through,” he said.

He also praised the spirit of selflessness among opposition leaders, saying none of them is obsessed with personal power.

"All of us are selfless. We’ll stick together to the end,” he assured.

Gachagua, who is accompanied by his wife, Dorcas, left the country on Thursday night, July 10.

He is set to visit Dallas, California, Seattle, Boston, and Baltimore during the two-month stay.

During the trip, Gachagua is scheduled to hold several town hall meetings and attend social gatherings to promote his agenda for the diaspora community.

The former DP is also expected to interact with selected American business people and investors as part of a broader campaign to position the opposition as a viable alternative in the run-up to the 2027 general election.

Insiders revealed that Gachagua is scheduled to hold meetings with investors who are reportedly interested in supporting the opposition ahead of the polls.
