Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned politicians against attempting to force their way into leadership through violence or unlawful means.

He emphasised that leadership will only be determined through elections supervised by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

He spoke on Thursday during a women's empowerment programme in Trans Nzoia County, Kindiki.

“We will not allow power-hungry politicians to sink our country into chaos and anarchy. Those seeking shortcuts to leadership must calm down,” he said.

“The date of the election is known, and IEBC is now in office. Let them wait.”

He added that no one will be allowed to incite violence, storm government institutions, or vandalise public or private property in an attempt to seize power.

“Hakuna mtu tutaruhusu avamie police station, aingie Ikulu by force ama achochee uharibifu wa mali ya umma na ya kibinafsi ili aingie uongozini kwa lazima kupitia shortcut,” Kindiki said.

This is loosely translated to, “No one will be permitted to storm police stations, access the State House by force or incite destruction of private and public property to get into presidency through shortcuts”.

The DP noted that the return of the IEBC commissioners, following recent court battles, clears the way for proper election planning.

“For a while, we did not have an IEBC due to disputes in court. Now the court has resolved those issues and the commissioners are in office. IEBC is the referee. The responsibility of preparing for the election lies with the IEBC,” he said.

Kindiki stressed that the Constitution is clear on the IEBC’s role and that the government respects all independent institutions.

He also criticised politicians who wait for campaign periods to distribute cheap items such as reflectors and lesos, saying that true leadership lies in serious empowerment efforts.

“This is the time to stand with the people through serious economic empowerment activities,” Kindiki said.

“Those who wait for campaigns to issue cheap things only demonstrate their contempt for the electorate.”
