Family, friends, human rights activists, and members of the public gathered at Ridgeways Baptist Church along Kiambu Road on Wednesday morning for the requiem mass of Albert Ojwang.

The service began at 10:00 am, with mourners paying their final respects to the late teacher and blogger whose death has stirred widespread grief and calls for justice.

Ojwang’s body is expected to be transported to Homa Bay County on Thursday, July 3. He will be laid to rest on Friday, July 4, at his father’s home in Kakwonyo Village.

Among those who attended the service were former Attorney General Justin Muturi and Mumias East MP Peter Salasya. Other leaders and mourners also turned up in large numbers to support the family and honour Ojwang’s memory.

In his address, Muturi shared his condolences with the bereaved family and reflected on the pain of losing a loved one. He also recalled a past incident where his own son was abducted, expressing solidarity with the family in their time of sorrow.

“I have come here to give my condolences to the family of the young man,” Muturi said.

Mourners described Ojwang as a dedicated teacher and a fearless voice who spoke out on issues affecting society. His untimely death has sparked public outcry, with many calling for justice and accountability.
