Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has officially released the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) placement results for the 2024 KCSE candidates.
Speaking during a press briefing, Ogamba noted that out of the 965,501 candidates who sat the KCSE examination in 2024, 244,563 attained a C+ and above and qualified for university admission to pursue degree programmes.
However, only 201,605 applied for placement. Additionally, 706,148 candidates qualified for college admission.
The CS credited the success of the exercise to recent technological advancements.
“The seamless process is attributed to investment in technological upgrades that have ensured a smooth process,” he said.
This marks the second phase of the placement process, following the first phase, which targeted students aspiring to join the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), national polytechnics, and other public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
Ogamba highlighted that medical courses remain highly competitive and urged students who have not yet applied to take advantage of the available opportunities.
“We urge the remaining qualified students who did not apply to explore opportunities at the Open University of Kenya, teacher training colleges, or the ongoing KMTC September intake,” he said.
He added that the government continues to expand higher education opportunities by establishing new university colleges, TVET institutions, and KMTC campuses, including facilities in West Pokot and Northern Kenya, as part of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Ogamba also announced that the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) portal is now open and encouraged eligible students to apply for funding.
This announcement comes after KUCCPS reopened its portal for the revision of choices between May 18 and May 27, 2025.
The revision targeted students seeking placement in universities and colleges for the 2025/2026 academic cycle.
KUCCPS indicated that applicants who were not placed during the earlier application period, which ended on April 30, 2025, were invited to log in and select from the remaining available courses listed on the portal.
Form Four leavers who attained a mean grade in the KCSE but are yet to apply for placement were also encouraged to do so.
