President William Samoei Ruto has appointed three new members to the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).
In a Gazette Notice dated June 27, 2025, Ruto appointed Peris Muthoni Kimani, Benjamin Juma Imai and Collete Suda.
They will replace those who recently exited following the expiry of their terms.
The new commissioners will serve for a non-renewable term of six years.
NPSC plays a critical role in human resource functions within the police service, including recruitment, promotions, transfers, and disciplinary control.
This also includes policy guidance on police welfare and professionalism.
The appointment of the trio now reinforces the government’s commitment to enhancing police oversight and accountability.
It comes amid heightened public scrutiny over police conduct and reforms.
The government has pledged to continue modernising and professionalising the police service in line with constitutional values and human rights.
The appointments follows the recent approval by parliament.
When they appeared for vetting before the National Assembly's committee on internal security, they vowed to work alongside fellow commissioners to drive the implementation of the Maraga-led police reforms.
“The Commission will ensure that the reforms are fully enforced. The Maraga recommendations will be integrated to promote the well-being of police officers,” said Juma.
They further emphasised the need to rebuild public trust in the police service, noting that this would be a key focus during his tenure.
“We will engage oversight bodies such as IPOA in forums to openly discuss the challenges officers are facing and seek collaborative, lasting solutions,” he added.
