The anticipated June 25 protests are in top gear in Mombasa, even as other parts of the country remain relatively calm, save for Nairobi.
The protests started with prayers at the ACK Memorial Church in Mombasa.
Participants then converged at the iconic Mapembeni at Moi Avenue, where they began their march around the city.
They are heard chanting, "A people united can never be defeated".
The peaceful protestors were escorted by security officers as they made their rounds across Mombasa.
According to the organisers, the demos are aimed at seeking justice for those killed during the anti-Finance Bill protests last year.
They said that there has been inaction from the authorities on the officers suspected of killings.
“We want Justice for all 63 who were killed. We have not seen a commitment in this matter. All those who killed our young people have not been arrested. We are calling for justice. Today is a holiday in remembrance of everyone who died during the anti-Finance Bill protest,” Activist Mathias Shipeta said.
