Three people, including a 71-year-old woman, died in separate electrocution incidents reported to police.

The first incident occurred at a funeral in the Nyawara area, Yala, Siaya County.

The victim, Josephine Aoko Otala, 71, was attending a night vigil on Saturday morning when the tragedy struck.

According to police, a tent had been set up for the funeral and power was connected for lighting. An electrician had installed the power but left live, naked wires hanging.

Otala reportedly walked to the tent where the coffin lay and touched metal rods holding up the structure, resulting in her instant electrocution.

Other mourners scattered in panic. Power was disconnected and Kenya Power officials were informed.

Her body was later moved to the mortuary as investigations began.

Elsewhere, in Garissa Town, a Kenya Power electrician was electrocuted while carrying out maintenance on high-voltage cables in the Burburis area on June 5.

The victim, identified as Fundi Mutinda, was with colleagues when the incident occurred. He was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said investigations are underway, adding that power is usually turned off before such maintenance work is carried out.

Authorities said they would work with Kenya Power to determine how and why the incident occurred.

In a third case, in Malindi, Kilifi County, a 28-year-old car wash attendant was electrocuted while on duty.

The victim, identified as Emmanuel Kombe, collapsed while working and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said the water used at the car wash had come into contact with live electricity.

His body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.
