The man identified as Peter Muthama was stabbed in the back in a struggle with suspected thugs
In Summary
Police are looking for a gang that
stabbed and killed a 28-year-old man in a robbery in Mathare slums, Nairobi.
The man identified as Peter Muthama
was stabbed in the back in a struggle with suspected thugs in the area on June
1.
His body was found lying next to a
makeshift long after the incident had happened, police said.
The assailants escaped the scene soon
after the attack.
Police arrived at the scene and
picked up the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and an investigation into the gang.
Police have been advising robbery
victims to always cooperate with their attackers for their safety.
Police say that some of the suspects involved
in robberies are under the influence and can cause death or harm on slight provocation
or resistance, hence the need for cooperation.
A hunt for the suspects behind the
attacks is ongoing, police said.
Elsewhere, police have
linked a gang arrested in Nakuru to the murder of a shop attendant in
Kaptembwo, Soilo area.
Police said three
men armed with a rifle stormed a shop and demanded cash and other valuables.
This prompted a
confrontation before the gang shot and killed Duncan Elias Mwambili, 23.
He was shot in the
stomach and rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police and witnesses
said the gang members used an unmarked motorcycle to escape from the scene in
the May 30 incident.
Three spent
cartridges of 7.6mm×39 were at the scene.
The body was moved to
the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
At least seven
suspects have been arrested, and some of them have been placed at the murder
scene.
The suspects are
also linked to at least four murder incidents in the area.
A team of detectives
is handling the case and has taken an AK-47 rifle for ballistic tests
to determine where the weapon has been used.
The gang was arrested on Monday, hours
after they had shot and killed a police officer in an ambush in Free Area,
Nakuru.
Two other officers are nursing bullet
wounds following the attack.
Police say they believe they have the right suspects who have been linked to the series of attacks in the area, and they will face murder and robbery with violence charges.
Some of the gangs call themselves as B13 and DNA.
