
President William Ruto has praised Kenya’s athletics team for their impressive performance at the 2025 Doha Diamond League.
The athletes brought home multiple victories, showcasing Kenya’s dominance on the global stage.
“We salute our athletics team for representing us brilliantly at the 2025 Doha Diamond League, bringing home multiple victories,” President Ruto said.
Among the winners was Reynold Cheruiyot, who triumphed in the 5,000 metres race. Nelly Chepchirchir won the 1,500 metres, while Susan Lokayo Ejore secured second place in the same event.
Faith Cherotich claimed victory in the 3,000 metres steeplechase. Wyclife Kinyamal finished as second runner-up in the 800 metres.
“Your sterling performance has filled the nation with pride,” the President added.
The team’s success was met with nationwide celebration.
Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, also congratulated the athletes.
“We applaud our athletics team for their remarkable achievements at the 2025 Doha Diamond League. The victories of Reynold Cheruiyot, Nelly Chepchirchir, Faith Cherotich and the outstanding efforts of Susan Lokayo Ejore and Wyclife Kinyamal reflect the spirit of discipline, hard work and unity that define Kenya,” he said. “Congratulations for flying the Kenyan flag high with honour and dignity!”
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris joined in the celebration.
“Kenya shines on the global stage! Congrats to Nelly Chepchirchir (1500m winner), Reynold Cheruiyot (5000m champ), Susan Ejore (2nd in 1500m), and Wycliffe Kinyamal (3rd in 800m),” she said.
Passaris highlighted Faith Cherotich’s standout performance, noting, “Faith Cherotich storms to victory in the 3000m Steeplechase with a world lead of 9:05.08 at the Doha Diamond League! Proud of Team Kenya!”
Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen also commended the team for the wins.
"Congratulations Faith Cherotich on your unforgettable finish to win the 3000m steeplechase in the Doha Diamond League this evening. Kudos to Nelly Chepchirchir and Reynold Cheruiyot too for the remarkable wins in the 1500m and 5000m races respectively. The great Kenyan winning spirit was on full display tonight.
