The late Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has issued a public notice asking a man they describe as a person of interest to present himself to the nearest police station for questioning as invetigations into the murder of Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were deepen.

DCI said the request for Philip Nahashon Aroko to present himself to the police must be complied with.

"He is a person of interest in the ongoing investigation. Compliance with this request is mandatory,” the DCI said in the notice.

The DCI also appealed to anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.

Informants can alternatively use toll-free numbers: 999, 112, or #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203).

“All information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” the DCI assured.

The notice comes hours after Were's driver and bodyguard were arrested and detained for grilling.

Police arrested the two on Tuesday night.

The officers said they are persons of interest in the case - for now.

The two were detained by detectives handling the matter after they gave inconsistent statements on what they knew or did not know about the murder.

The two were not hurt when a gunman shot and killed Were on Wednesday, April 30, near Nairobi Funeral Home (City Mortuary).

A lone gunman who police said had been trailing the MP's car from Nairobi CBD stepped off a motorbike and walked up to the car when it stopped at a red light opposite Daystar University.

He opened fire, killing Were on the spot.

An autopsy revealed that he was shot five times and that the bullets ruptured vital organs, including his heart.

The bodyguard jumped out of the car as the gunman hopped onto a getaway motorbike, which then sped off back to Nairobi CBD.

Witnesses said he chased the motorcycle for a short distance before he raced back to the car to join the driver and rushed the bleeding MP to the nearby Nairobi Hospital.

Detectives handling the matter have been moving around with the two to reconstruct scenes where the MP was before he was trailed and shot dead.

Four suspects are already in custody over the murder.

One of the suspects arrested had Sh615,000 in his house in Nairobi believe to have been paid for the mission.

Detectives are trying to establish the source of the money and the motive.
