Senior counsel Pheroze Nowrojee is dead
Nowrojee passed away on Saturday morning in the US at the age of 84.

ODM Leader Raila Odinga has joined the country in mourning the death of renowned human rights lawyer and Senior Counsel Pheroze Nowrojee, describing him as the “epitome of forthrightness and resilience.”
In a heartfelt tribute, Raila lauded Nowrojee’s unwavering dedication to the fight for civil and political freedoms in Kenya, calling him a towering figure in the country’s legal and democratic journey.
“For as long as Kenyans have fought for their civil, political liberties and freedoms, Senior Counsel Pheroze Nowrojee has been there, steadfast and unbowed as the People's Attorney,” Raila said.
He credited Nowrojee’s legal brilliance and activism with shaping key milestones in Kenya’s history, including the 2010 Constitution.
“His thoughts and footprints are in every milestone we have attained as a country. His passing marks the end of a historic era and leaves a gap that will be almost impossible to fill,” Raila added.
Raila extended his condolences to Nowrojee’s family, saying his thoughts and prayers are with them during this moment of deep grief.
“Rest in peace, Comrade Pheroze,” he concluded.
Nowrojee passed away on Saturday in the United States at the age of 84. Until his death, he remained active in the legal field and was Chair of the Asian African Heritage Trust.
He was, till his death, the Chair of the Asian African Heritage Trust which has played a very significant role in advancing Kenya's position and progress in diplomacy, peace, friendship and education worldwide.
His colleagues in the legal fraternity have mourned Nowrojee as a man who presented the best in court advocacy.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhiambo described Nowrojee as a man of irrefutable poise and honourable character, whose life exemplified duty to service and dedication to Justice.
"Our hearts sink today, for we have lost one of the greatest to have ever done it. As we honour this bastion of constitutionalism, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and every person whose life he touched. May Senior Counsel Pheroze Nowrojee rest in eternal peace," Odhiambo said.
