Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has dismissed claims that President William Ruto has lost political ground in the Mount Kenya region after residents decamped to the opposition.

Speaking during the opening of a Goat Artificial Insemination (A.I.) Center at Ahiti Ndoba in Mwea Constituency Kirinyaga, the Governor hit out at those who claimed that Ruto's support base is declining in favor of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

She asserted that the visit by the President showed Ruto still enjoys massive support from the people.

“The turnout by people during this visit by the President clearly shows that he still enjoys support from the people, contrary to claims that the President has lost support or people have decamped to the opposition,” Waiguru said.

Her sentiments echoed Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwah ‘s remarks on Wednesday who told off leaders who had cast aspersions on the viability of President William Ruto's visit to Mt Kenya following his fallout with the ex-DP.

“They said the President would never return to Meru. Where is the Head of State now? The President is in Maua. Isn’t Maua in Meru County? Isn’t Meru county in the Mt Kenya region?” he posed.

Waiguru further called for unity of the Mount Kenya region towards embracing Ruto’s development agenda, adding that the region will reap more in government than in opposition.

“We will continue to support the President because we know the 2027 politics will be decided purely on performance. Let's continue to support and work with President Ruto for the sake of development,” she stated.

The second term Governor expressed gratitude for the transformative initiatives by county and national government, highlighting the positive impact they would have on local farming communities and the wider economy.

"We are particularly honored to host the Goat AI Center at Ndomba, which is not only a great treasure for our county but also a key development milestone for our country. This center is a significant step forward in improving goat production and food security in Kirinyaga County," she said.
