The lawmaker emphasized the importance of inclusivity in national politics, urging Ruto and Raila to prioritize unity and inclusiveness in their political engagements.
Addressing residents at Makutano Market in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Constituency, on March 30, Khalwale stated that the two leaders should listen to Gachagua and find a way to address his concerns.
Khalwale, who serves as the Senate Majority Whip, warned that failing to engage with Gachagua could fuel perceptions of exclusion, allowing him to push a divisive narrative.
The senator asserted that reaching out to Gachagua would reinforce the President’s commitment to national unity and dispel fears that his alliance with Raila seeks to isolate any region.
“When Your Excellency, the President and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga agreed to work together, your agenda was to unite all Kenyans,” Khalwale said.
“If you truly want to unite the country, President Ruto, reach out to Rigathi, sit down with him, and listen to what he wants.”
Khalwale, a member of the ruling UDA party, insisted that dialogue between Ruto, Raila, and Gachagua would foster inclusivity.
“We do not want Rigathi to continue claiming that Kikuyus are being excluded from the national agenda. We want Kikuyus to be treated just like Luhyas, Luos, Kalenjins, and all other Kenyans,” he stated.
The senator also criticized security agencies for attempting to disrupt Gachagua’s public rallies in Kajiado and Naivasha on Friday and Saturday.
“I saw Gachagua had meetings in Kajiado and Naivasha, and I saw many police officers. No! That is not right,” Khalwale said, stressing that inclusivity is vital for national cohesion and development.
The senator’s remarks come at a time of heightened political activity, with President Ruto expected to tour the Mount Kenya region this week.
