President William Ruto, his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta, and ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are today attending different church services across the country.
While Ruto worshipped at AIC Jericho in Nairobi, Uhuru was in Meru for a Thanksgiving mass of Bishop Jackson Murugara at St. Joseph's Cathedral.
Murugara was installed as the Coadjutor Bishop of Meru on Wednesday.
Before his appointment, the Coadjutor Bishop of Meru, Murugara, served at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi.
The Catholic Church announced that his appointment was officially published in L’Osservatore Romano in Rome on January 16, 2025.
The Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Archbishop Bert Van Megen, conveyed the appointment to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) through an official communication.
“His appointment as Bishop is a testament to his years of service, commitment to his faith, and dedication to uplifting the lives of others,” KCCB said in a statement then.
Uhuru was accompanied by former Agriculture CS Peter Munya and ex-Meru woman representative Florence Kajuju.
Ruto, on his part, was joined by a host of elected leaders from Nairobi led by National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah.
On the other hand, Gachagua attended the consecration and enthronement of Venerable Canon Gerald Mwangi Muriithi as the 3rd Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Mt. Kenya West in his Nyeri backyard.
He was also joined by a section of allies.
