Six Members of Parliament from Western Kenya have officially endorsed Co-operatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, for the Deputy President position in the 2027 General Election, vowing to rally the region behind his candidacy.
Speaking in Khwisero Sub-County during the disbursement of Uwezo Funds, the lawmakers termed Oparanya as a proven leader, citing his strong development record as former Kakamega Governor and his current role in government.
The leaders made the “Khwisero Declaration”, a symbolic endorsement of Oparanya’s bid, stating that the region must be strategically positioned in the next government through his leadership.
Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka called on Oparanya to officially declare his candidacy, assuring him of unwavering support.
“You have the experience, the vision, and the people’s trust. We are ready to support you on the ballot,” said Aseka.
Lurambi MP, Titus Khamala, echoed the sentiments emphasizing that Western Kenya must unite politically to negotiate for power in the next government.
“We cannot afford to be rudderless, clueless, and networkless. Our community must stand together and ensure we have a seat at the table,” said Khamala.
The MPs also urged Oparanya to join forces with Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, and National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, to strengthen the region’s bargaining power.
Navakholo MP, Emmanuel Wangwe, emphasized the need for strategic negotiations.
“This is the time for Western Kenya to unite and demand a leadership position at the national level. Oparanya must negotiate and take the Deputy President position,” said Wangwe.
Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali assured Oparanya of steadfast support declaring that Kakamega County’s votes should not be taken for granted.
“Our votes are valuable and we must use them wisely. We have unwavering support for Oparanya in 2027,” said Shinali.
Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda described Oparanya as a transformational leader adding that his track record as governor and CS makes him the best candidate for the position.
“The people have agreed. Oparanya has delivered on development and we now declare the Khwisero Declaration of our full backing for his Deputy Presidency bid,” said Muhanda.
The endorsement signals a new phase in Western Kenya’s political realignment, as leaders position the region as a key player in National politics.
