The Inter Management Group (IMG) Director Charles Gacheru has announced plans by the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (Kengen) to issue fruit seedlings to at least 10,000 people who will attend the highly anticipated World Rally Championship 2025 (WRC) in Naivasha.
Speaking during a cooperation forum between Radio Africa Group and Kengen at the electricity-generating firm's headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday, the director revealed that those in attendance during the rally event would be offered perks in the form of fruit seedlings by the energy company.
The WRC event, which is expected to take place between Thursday, March 20 to Sunday, March 23, 2025, will be held in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Gacheru welcomed those interested in taking part in the sportful event promising an iconic experience during this year’s rally.
“On Sunday, we will be there at Hell’s Gate. Hell’s Gate is the most watched stage in the whole world of WRC, and we will be there. His Excellency (President William Ruto) will be there to handover trophies, and therefore we are calling on citizens to avail themselves in masses,” Gacheru said.
“Kengen has said 10,000 people will get fruit seedlings.”
He further encouraged Kengen Pink Energy to avail themselves at Kenya International Convention Center (KICC) to flag off an all-female Kenyan crew of media queen Pauline Sheghu and her navigator Linet Ayuko as they head to Kasarani during the first day of the event.
KenGen's Pink Energy Initiative (PEI) was established in 2016 to uplift the status of women within KenGen and empower them both inside and outside the company, as well as in the energy sector.
This year's WRC Safari Rally has two new stages: Morendat Farm in Naivasha and Camp Moran in the competitive route of the fabled event that is Africa's only round in the WRC.
Kenya signed a deal with the World Rally Championship to extend Safari Rally hosting rights to December 2026 following its successful return to the championship after almost two decades.
WRC announced in February that the entry list for the first gravel round of the 2025 FIA World Rally Championship is out, with 10 top-level Rally1 cars and 16 WRC2 entries confirmed for Safari Rally Kenya.
