The Nairobi Hospital Board has appointed Barcley Onyambu the new chairman.

In a communication by the company secretary seen by the Star, the hospital said the appointment will mark a fresh chapter in leadership focused on strengthening governance and ethical standards.

The statement states that Onyambu is a seasoned obstetrician and gynecologist with extensive experience in healthcare governance.

He has been a board member since 2024 and has chaired key committees, including Human Resources, Infrastructure, and Audit and Risk.

It adds that he holds a Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynecology and has advanced training in healthcare management from Strathmore University.

The Nairobi Hospital said that his appointment reflects the Board’s commitment to continuous improvement and upholding the highest standards in healthcare delivery.

The Board extended gratitude to the immediate former Chairman, Chris M. N. Bichage, for his dedicated service and leadership over the past year and a half.

The Nairobi Hospital is a non-profit organization that is leading in medical expertise and service provision, with deservedly earned recognition throughout East Africa and beyond as an advanced diagnostic, treatment, and referral centre.

According to the  Nairobi Hospital website, the hospital is a pacesetter in medical practice in Kenya and has recorded several firsts locally and in the East and Central African region with milestones including the first private nursing training college in Kenya, first institution to offer a Diploma in Theatre Nursing, the first hospital to fit a duo chamber pacemaker on a patient, the first institution to offer hip replacement, the first eye bank in East Africa and the first complete video gastroenterology system, among other achievements.
