A section of MPs from the Western and Rift Valley regions have welcomed the political deal between President William Ruto and opposition chief Raila Odinga saying it would enhance unity and strengthen the government.

The MPs were hosted by Ruto’s aide, Farouk Kibet, at Kamagut High School in Uasin Gishu for a thanksgiving event.

Farouk poured praise on Ruto and Raila for agreeing to work together.

The MPs included Emmanuel Wangwe of Navakholo, Fredrick Ikana of Shinyalu, Benard Shinali of Ikolomani and Janet Sitienei of Turbo.

The legislators described Ruto and Raila as the most influential leaders in the country with a huge capacity to unite Kenyans and push economic development for the benefit of all Kenyans.

Ikana thanked the residents of Uasin Gishu for standing with Ruto and nurturing him politically for many years.

He said Ruto had proved that he was not a selfish leader and was interested in national unity, hence the decision to work with Raila.

“Even in western Kenya, we have agreed to work with Ruto, and as a country, we should not entertain tribalists. Let’s ensure Ruto gets another a second term to work for Kenyans,” he said.

Farouk said Ruto and Raila had prioritized the future of Kenya by agreeing to work together, and those still propagating tribalism would fail in their mission.

Farouk asked church leaders to also condemn leaders who propagate tribalism with the same measure they deploy in fighting graft.

He said all Kenyans had the right to live in the country and the focus should be on harmony between communities and not tribalism.

“We should support Raila and Ruto to move this country forward and avoid those hellbent on preaching tribalism and disunity,” said Farouk.

Sitienei said the deal between the two leaders was good for the country and thanked Raila for agreeing to back Ruto so that the government delivers on its mandate.

Wangwe said he had been a friend to Ruto for a long time, and even though he was elected through ODM, Ruto had always embraced all leaders regardless of their political affiliations.

“As Raila’s supporters, we will give Ruto 100 percent support, and we will not allow anyone who will try to interfere with Ruto’s programme for this country,” said Wangwe.

Shinali said Ruto’s initiatives, like SHA and the affordable housing programmes, would help to transform the country.

“With the support from Baba and all Kenyans, Ruto will transform this country economically,” said Shinali.

Also present at the event were Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea and PS for TVET Esther Mworia.
