Electrocution.

A 24-year-old woman died after an electrocution by a water heater in Mathare slums, Nairobi.

Police said the body of Sarah Mbiki Mutinfa was found next to the water heater on Sunday, March 2, long after the electrocution.

It is suspected she had tried to boil water using the gadget when she was electrocuted.

The woman was alone in the house, and when her parents tried to reach her, she could not respond to the calls.

This prompted her father to visit the house, where he found it locked from inside.

He alerted the neighbours, who helped break into the house where the body was found lying.

Police were called to the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

Such incidents are common in informal settlements. Officials blame the trend on illegal power connections.

Elsewhere, a 20-year-old man was found dead after he had been stabbed by an assailant in a fight in Mkuru slums, Nairobi.

Police said Ramadhan Shaban was stabbed in a confrontation by a man known to him.

The motive of the attack is yet to be established, police said of the Sunday night incident.

The said assailant was later arrested pending probe and possible arraignment with murder.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Cases of stabbing are on the rise in informal settlements amid calls for action to address the trend.

Some of the incidents leave victims with serious injuries, while others are fatal.

Elsewhere, a woman was found dead in her house in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

Leah Njambi's relatives said she had not responded to calls, which prompted them to check on her in the Kihunguro area.

They broke the windowpane and peeped through, spotting her lifeless body on the bed.

Police officers were called to the scene and established that the deceased had stayed alone in a single-room house and had not woken up to attend her shop as usual.

The body was found on the bed with no visible physical injuries and was moved to Kenyatta University Funeral Home, awaiting an autopsy.

This will explain how she died, police said.
