Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to declare his political intentions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview with some Kamba Stations on Wednesday, Gachagua revealed that he was unaware of the political standing of the former prime minister
The former deputy president called on him to soon announce his political standing on whether he would support President William Ruto's bid come the next elections.
After Raila Odinga lost the AUC chairmanship seat to Djibouti candidate Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, the former Prime Minister said he will announce his next political move.
"We don’t understand Raila Odinga and his intentions. We are waiting for him to clarify his position so we know how to coexist with him," Gachagua said.
"If he chooses to support Ruto, we will not try to stop him."
The former deputy president stated that he was open to working him (Raila).
“I want to take this opportunity to tell supporters of Raila Odinga from Nyanza that they should not fight the mountain people because we are not their enemies at all. We have no problem with Raila Odinga and ODM,” Gachagua said.
During the interview, the former DP said their new outfit’s motive is to unite Kenyans and mobilise them to register as voters.
“This is a new beginning and we are on the right footing so far. We will work with Kalonzo and while it is early to pick a flagbearer, our motive now is mobilising Kenyans to vote to send this administration home,” Gachagua said.
Following his impeachment, Gachagua has been reaching out to political leaders, including those in the opposition, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gachagua has met Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper, Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) and the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K)’s Eugene Wamalwa, among others.
