The Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) has announced plans to promote additional 28, 288 teachers across various grades this year.

Commission’s chairperson Jamleck Muturi said the number will now bring the total number of promoted teachers in just two years to 59,792.

Speaking during the release of KCSE results, Muturi noted that the move is part of their commitment to fostering professional growth and reconsigning their hard work.

“We encourage all eligible teachers to take advantage of this opportunity to advance their careers,” he said.

He attributed this to increased funding from the government.

Muturi at the same time stated that the commission has prioritised capacity building and development for the teachers.

To date, he said, they have 229, 292 primary school teachers retooling and an additional 60, 000 junior secondary school teachers being trained.

“These programmes ensure that our teachers are equipped with skills to effectively implement CBC and meet the diverse needs of our learners,” he said.

According to KNEC, a total of 965, 512 candidates registered for the examinations, an increase of 7.19 per cent which is the highest since 2020.

The candidates sat for the KCPE in March 2021.
