Ruto says the government's continued investment in sports is aimed at empowering young people

President William Ruto on Monday hosted Migori Youth FC at State House, Nairobi where he congratulated the club on winning the 2025-26 National Super League title and presented the team with a bus to support their travels.

The President said the government's continued investment in sports is aimed at empowering young people and creating opportunities through talent development.

"We are empowering young people to contribute to the transformation of our nation and become the architects of Kenya's future," Ruto said.

He said the government is investing in sports alongside the creative and digital economy, overseas employment, business support, affordable housing and infrastructure development to create millions of jobs and opportunities for young people.

According to the President, the government is building and upgrading 34 stadia across the country to support sports development and expand opportunities for emerging talent.

Ruto said the investments are already yielding results, pointing to the continued success of Kenyan athletes on the global stage and the Junior Starlets' historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup.

He said the bus presented to Migori Youth FC will ease the team's travel for league matches following their promotion to the top flight.

The President also announced that the government is constructing a modern stadium in Migori County to provide the club and the wider community with quality facilities for nurturing local talent.
