Deputy President Kithure Kindiki today visited Kiptulos Secondary School in Elgeyo Marakwet County, where he launched the fencing of Kaptagat Forest and participated in tree planting activities to mark the 10th anniversary of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme.

‎The programme, initiated by Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo, has for the past decade focused on restoring and protecting the Kaptagat ecosystem through reforestation, community participation and sustainable environmental conservation initiatives.

‎Speaking during the event, Kindiki underscored the government's commitment to safeguarding Kenya's water towers and increasing forest cover as part of national efforts to combat climate change, protect biodiversity and secure water resources for future generations. 

‎He praised the partnership between government agencies, local communities and conservation stakeholders for sustaining the programme over the last 10 years.

‎The launch of the forest fencing project is expected to enhance protection against encroachment, illegal logging and other destructive human activities that threaten the ecosystem. 

‎The tree planting exercise brought together government officials, conservation groups, students and residents, reaffirming Kenya's commitment to environmental restoration and the national target of growing billions of trees under the country's ambitious forest conservation agenda.
