The government's digital literacy programme will transform teaching and learning in more than 10,300 schools expected to benefit during the first phase, Basic Education PS John Ololtuaa has said.

Ololtuaa said the programme will initially target junior secondary schools across all counties, with institutions receiving smart boards to support digital learning.

"Through the smart boards, a teacher will teach many schools in different counties at the same time because everything will be digitised," he said.

The PS spoke at Race Course School in Eldoret, where he handed over a school bus purchased through the Kesses National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) under the leadership of area MP Julius Rutto.

Tourism Principal Secretary Julius Bitok and Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba also attended the event.

Ololtuaa said 215 schools in Uasin Gishu county would benefit from the digital literacy programme, including 38 in Kesses constituency.

"Our aim is to make learning and teaching easier through the digital literacy programme," he said.

He added that the government would accelerate the solarisation of schools to expand access to clean, reliable energy while promoting environmental conservation.

"The solarisation programme will enable schools to access clean and safe energy, and will also help conserve our environment," Ololtuaa said.

The PS said implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum was progressing well despite a few challenges.

"We are working with all stakeholders to ensure the implementation goes on smoothly," he said.

He urged parents, teachers and learners to play their respective roles to ensure education has a positive impact on learners' lives.

MP Rutto said schools in the constituency had benefited from NG-CDF through the acquisition of school buses and the expansion of infrastructure, including classrooms and administration blocks.

Bitok, who swapped portfolios with Ololtuaa just over a month ago, said he was proud of the progress made while serving in the education docket and pledged to maintain the same commitment in the tourism sector.

"I will equally work hard in the tourism docket so that we have more tourists coming to our country," Bitok said.

The two Principal Secretaries and the MPs also highlighted what they described as the achievements of President William Ruto's administration over the past three years, saying he should be given a second term to complete ongoing projects.

"The President has initiated many projects across the country and he should be given time to serve the country and fully implement his vision," Kipchumba said.
