Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has vowed not to
relent in his development agenda despite the latest attacks by politicians.
He, however, said delayed funds from the Treasury will
affect projects in agriculture, healthcare, education, infrastructure and
water.
“These are areas I
believe can drive major social-economic transformations for our people so that
they are able to rise from poverty and contribute to economic growth,”
Natembeya said.
He is among top three performing governors as per the latest
opinion polls by Infotrak.
The pollster named agriculture as one of Natembeya’s best-performing
sectors.
Natembeya has expanded the distribution of fertiliser to farmers
to enhance production.
The governor said within the past two years, there has been
real change in many homes and farmers now produce more food and cash crops.
“As a county we will
ensure we extend all necessary support to farm ers to enhance production and
make more money,” he said.
Through programmes
such as Fukuza Njaa and the Nawiri initiative, the governor pledged to uplift
the livelihoods of thousands of households.
In the education sector, Sh70 million has been allocated to
finance Natembeya’s Ukombozi School Milk Programme.
The initiative will
see ECDE learners receive milk twice a week.
The governor unveiled the milk-feeding initiative alongside
two other transformative education initiatives aimed at improving the lives of
thousands of students.
Two weeks ago,
Natembeya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, which he
termed as the cornerstone for civilisation and development.
“The feeding
programme is more than just milk. It’s about nourishment, and health, and it’s an
opportunity for our youngest learners to thrive academically and physically,”
he said.
To ensure the success of
the milk programme, the county partnered with New Kenya Cooperative Creameries
for a reliable milk supply.
In addition to the
milk programme, the governor announced significant strides in improving school
infrastructure, including the construction of 122 classrooms, 61 offices and 28
ablution blocks for a growing number of ECDE learners.
An additional 28 twin classrooms are currently under
construction.
For vocational training, the county has allocated Sh45
million in tuition support, enabling trainees to access Sh13,000 each, up from
Sh2,000.
Natembeya also highlighted a partnership with a Dutch donor,
Tools to Work, which has supplied tools worth more than Sh10 million to
vocational training centres.
