Awendo Member of Parliament Walter Owino has said that those calling for the creation of the position of Prime Minister (PM) were exercising freedom of expression and added they are entitled to their opinion.

The National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), which was established after the 2022 polls, proposed, among other things, the creation of the positions of Prime Minister and Leader of the Official Opposition to enhance governance and representation.

Owino who spoke during the issuance of bursaries amounting to Sh51 million in Awendo Constituency, disclosed that for the creation of the office of the PM, a referendum will have to be held, an idea that the country was not ready for at the moment.

He, however, urged the country to be calm as they await for formal communication from Raila Odinga himself.

The MP also explained that as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, no one has approached them to discuss any issue regarding the creation of the PM position.

Owino noted that the ongoing rural electrification project will be installing over 40 transformers to provide clean power to the residents.

The legislator also confirmed that Awendo Constituency will be considered for the affordable housing project for the benefit of Migori residents.

This comes after a crucial meeting that was held in Nairobi between the housing officials led by Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga and Migori county leadership chaired by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko.
