In a major step to enhance security in the border town of Diif, Wajir South, Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) troops stationed in the area held a Key Leaders’ Engagement (KLE) with residents.
The forum brought together security
agencies, administrators, and community members in an area long troubled by
terror attacks, mostly targeting security officers. Notably, no major incidents
have been reported in the past year, a lull seen as a sign of progress.
Major Martin Kasinga underscored
that safeguarding the region’s stability required a joint effort. “This
multi-agency initiative is very important as it aims to strengthen peace and
stability along the Kenya-Somalia border. The input of each of us is important.
We all have a role to play in ensuring that our country’s security remains
stable at all times,” he said.
A statement from KDF later noted
that the meeting offered a platform for open dialogue between local leaders and
security personnel, reinforcing the importance of partnership in confronting
emerging security challenges.
Residents welcomed the initiative,
with Omar Hussein praising the efforts of security forces. “We sincerely thank
our KDF officers working day and night to ensure our area remains peaceful.
Going forward, we assure them of our continued cooperation to foster unity,
resilience, and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
He added that by working together,
stakeholders can address security challenges and create an environment that
fosters social and economic development.
In May, during a tour of Wajir, DCI boss Mohamed Amin also acknowledged the stability in the region but cautioned residents against complacency.
“The security situation in Wajir County remains stable, thanks to effective coordination among security teams and residents. But we must remain vigilant,” he said.
