Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has said the government is committed to initiate development projects in marginalised areas and bring equity to sharing of national resources.
He said the Kenya Kwanza government will traverse the country to listen to the
people and initiate development projects in areas that were forgotten by
previous governments.
Mbadi spoke during a working tour in Bangali subcounty in Tana Rivercounty.
He said all Kenyans pay taxes regardless and are all entitled to
development.
The CS
dismissed the shareholding talks, saying every Kenyan is a
shareholder through birth and taxes.
Mbadi said it is regrettable that communities in some parts of Tana River
are struggling with water scarcity and are forced to share a small dam with their
livestock after more than 60 years of independence.
“It has
become a norm that some people are paying taxes without getting
development projects, while others are receiving development. We were placed
here by God and Kenya is our rightful home,” he said.
“There are
people who have electricity connectivity in their homes, others, the roads are
tarmacked to their doorsteps and have piped water in their homesteads then if
you come to a place like this, you find people walking close to 80km to get water. This is not right,” he said.
Mbadi
promised to set aside funds in the next supplementary budget for a water
project to relieve the citizens from the pain of lack of
water.
Bura MP Yakub Adow, who was hosting the CS, said he is hopeful the government would step in to tackle the challenges his people are facing.
