In Summary
Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo has highlighted the significant strides his administration has made over the past two years.
Speaking when he presided over the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations at Oldonyiro Sub County on Sunday, June 1, 2025, Guyo named several projects his government has implemented during his tenure.
These include the drilling and equipping of 52 boreholes and the implementation of 16 additional boreholes in collaboration with development partners to enhance water access across the county.
“My government has recently advertised the construction of critical water infrastructure for Modogashe, which has lacked potable water for the last 60 years. We are also laying a 10-kilometre HDPE pipeline for Dadachabasa,” the governor announced.
He also pointed out the facelift of the Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital (ICTRH), which includes renovations to the plumbing, painting, and a comprehensive overhaul of the theatre.
Plans are underway to acquire two state-of-the-art ambulances and supply the hospital with new beds, alongside the establishment of a dedicated Cardiology Clinic to offer specialised care.
Infrastructure development has also been a priority. The county has upgraded the 1.5-kilometre Kachewa–Ola Jarole–Makaburini Road in Bula Pesa Ward to bitumen standards and murramed the 9.5-kilometre Shabani–Alamach Road in Burat Ward.
Remote areas have not been left behind, with notable projects including the operationalisation of Parkuruk Dispensary, the Lenguruma Maternity Wing in Oldonyiro, and an Eye Unit at Garbatulla Level 4 Hospital, which has already conducted over 200 successful cataract surgeries.
To address food security and mitigate climate change effects, the county has established the Gabaya and Tiyole irrigation farms in Kinna Ward and rehabilitated the Elsa Ntirim Irrigation Scheme in Burat Ward.
These initiatives aim to ensure year-round farming and reduce dependence on rain-fed agriculture.
On social protection, Guyo announced the development of key policies, including the Isiolo County Social Protection Policy, 2023.
The Isiolo County Child Protection Policy, 2025, and the FGM Policy, 2025 are both at the approval stage.
In education, the county has provided fortified porridge to 15,000 ECDE learners, employed 38 additional teachers, and constructed 25 new classrooms.
The celebrations were graced by Isiolo County Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya, County Assembly Speaker Mohamed Roba, former Governor Godana Doyo, members of the County Assembly, and senior officials from the National Government.
