One dead in Mombasa Road accident

Police say the body has been moved to the Machakos Level 5 hospital mortuary, awaiting identification

One person has died in a grisly traffic road accident along the Nairobi - Mombasa highway in Machakos County.

Machakos County police commander Patrick Lobolia said the unidentified man died on the spot after the motor vehicle, a salon car, he was driving got involved in a head on collision with an oncoming lorry in Kyumbi area, Athi River subcounty on Wednesday.

Lobolia said the incident happened on Wednesday evening.

"One person died on the spot in the tragic accident. He was overtaking when he collided head on with the lorry, leading to the accident," Lobolia said.

Lobolia spoke to the Star by phone shortly after the incident occurred.

The police boss said the body was removed to the Machakos Level 5 hospital mortuary, awaiting identification and an autopsy.

The matter was reported to Kyumbi police station as a fatal traffic road accident incident report.

Lobolia said the accident led to the lorry, hitting other motor vehicles, two trailers on the highway.

He said traffic officers from Kyumbi police station were still at the scene by press time..
