Galana Energies is marking 25 years of operations in Kenya, tracing a journey that began as Delta before rebranding into the company it is today.
Over the past quarter of a century, the firm has grown into a nationwide network, supplying fuel, lubricants, LPG, and operating Breeze convenience shops.
While Galana’s expansion reflects the growth of Kenya’s
energy sector, the company is also drawing attention to its community work
through the Galana Foundation. Education, in particular, has become a central
part of its outreach.
The Foundation said its flagship scholarship programme has so far
supported more than 80 students, largely focusing on children moving from
primary to secondary school. "The scholarships are not limited to paying fees;
students also benefit from mentorship and guidance designed to help them
envision a future beyond their immediate circumstances," it said in a statement.
At a mentorship day earlier this year, themed “Pushing
Barriers,” Galana CEO Anthony Munyasya shared his own story with the students.
He told them how he joined the company as an intern before rising to the top
position. “It doesn’t matter where you start. What matters is that you start,”
he said.
For parents, the scholarships have eased the financial
strain of secondary education. Mentors see the programme as a chance to pass on
encouragement and advice. For the students, it is often their first opportunity
to interact closely with professionals who share their experiences and
challenges.
One student who attended the mentorship session reflected on
the impact: “I now know I belong in every room where dreams are made and
futures are decided.”
The company says this approach is part of ensuring its
anniversary celebrations are not only about fuel stations or business growth,
but also about the lives touched along the way.
As Galana looks ahead, the Foundation is expected to continue expanding its support for students. The company frames its 25-year milestone not only as a record of endurance in a competitive industry, but also as a commitment to contribute to Kenya’s future by investing in education.
